Introducing Philippine STAR’s Future Forward

·

,

Hello reader,

Any science fiction nerd will say that the checklist of the future comes in threes: (1) robots, (2) flying cars, and (3) coordinated uniforms. Robots, we have a lot of. Although we’ve seen the Chinese and Tesla showcase several of their humanoid robots, the more domesticated and non-descript ones are inside your home, cleaning the floor.

Flying cars are here, albeit not accessible to the regular commuter. But drones are. It’s no longer a head-turner to see a drone hovering above you taking footage of a concert. Or watering crops. Or creating a sky light show at Disneyland.

Coordinated uniforms? Good luck with that.

I’m here to say that two out of three isn’t bad and that the future isn’t just “now” – it’s been here for years, in various iterations. Mobile phones were once the future. Then it became social media. Then drones. Then your smart refrigerator. Now it’s AI.

There’s a lot to unpack in this maiden issue of Future Forward. It’s not just AI, but about governance. It’s about data sovereignty, but at what strides. It’s about job security, despite taking jobs away.

This issue puts forth thought leadership away from the hyperscalers and down to the grassroots. We interview industry luminaries like Prep Palacios of Google, Stephen Cheng of HONOR, and Ida Ong-Co of HP Philippines on the horizon we look forward to as a human species.

All in all this maiden issue – this maiden voyage is a message of hope, because without it, what are we as a people?
