Unboxing Warhammer Online Collector’s Edition

Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at September 25th, 2008

A bit late, but here are some photos of the Warhammer Collector’s Edition box set. If you’re a fan of the Warhammer lore, the graphic novel (blue) Prelude to War will not disappoint as it tackles the back story of Grumlok and Gazbag as pawns of the Dark Elves and the rallying of the Dwarven engineers. Alongside this, The Art of Warhammer Online (red) is fabulously done, bringing a fantasy themed coffee table book to round out the other magazines you have on display.

More photos after the break…

The set also comes with a Grumlok and Gazbag Warhammer figurine that needs to be painted. It also comes with various flyers and promo material including an exclusive map download for Red Alert 3 *shrug* :: Looks like a cross promotional gimmick!

What’s disturbing — compared to the Standard Edition, the Collector’s Ed set costs so much more, at slightly less that P4,200. Hmm. No, wait. It’s not that. It’s more like the Standard Edition which you can find in Datablitz is really cheap, at roughly P1,600.00 which is a damn good price for a quality MMORPG. Usually, these games are priced between P2,300.00 to P3,000.00.

The in-game items for buying the Collector’s Edition are … OK. Frankly, now that I’m deep into the game, I wouldn’t have spent this much more for the Collector’s Ed if extra heads and a few items were the only things offered (the portable tent is the most useful item). The biggest saving grace is the workmanship in the graphic novel and the behind the scenes sketches and artwork.

    The game showed promise.
But it’s just another MMO, w/ a few more bells and whistles, perhaps, dressed up to look like ‘Warhammer Fantasy’. IMHO, it fails as a game based on the Warhammer IP: too much divergence from ‘established lore’ and lack of atmosphere.
Gameplay-wise: not much different from most other MMOs out there.

I don’t know how widespread the current ‘exodus’ from the game seems to be, but there seem to be a good amount of folks disappointed w/ the game due to bugs/glitches, so-called balance issues (IMHO, balance should be seen from the grand scheme of things, not on a 1v1 level), and, perhaps most importantly, server population issues (butter got spread too thin coz someone toasted too much bread…).
