Survey says: Women don’t like pink gadgets!!!!

I wonder what Pink SEO and Geek Girl Manila have to say about this article:

Hardware Widow Advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi has put down in black and white what plenty of women around here have been thinking for ages: we want technology but we don’t want it coloured pink or encrusted with fake gemstones.

[…] Only nine per cent of the women S&S talked to think it’s important that their gadgets look feminine. Rather a lot of ladies are completely turned off by the abundance of pink products. [The Register]

I’m not a lady, so I honestly cannot give an insight on this claim. I do think that the mindset is taboo, and that consumers are a lot smarter than this. What do the lady geeks think?

I think you are looking at it Hello Kitty and Sanrio 🙂 Bubblegum and lace.

What are little girls made of?
Sugar and spice,
and all that’s nice;
That’s what little girls are made of.

I go for the specs really and prefer the gadget NOT to be pink.

But my friend Maita LOVES the color. Her digital camera is pink. Her Treo’s wallpaper is from Legally Blonde. Crazy, huh? And she loves Hello Kitty too and dragged me to the short lived cafe of the same name in megaMall.

i don’t really care what the thing looks like so long as it’s working. if it’s pink, well, cool. i have a lot of all-pink outfits. if it’s not pink, i have all-black, or all-grey, or all-white outfits. hah!

True. I’m so not a fan of pink gadgets. I prefer classy colors for gadgets–especially if I’m gonna look at it everyday! Cellphone’s silver. Laptop’s silver. Digicam’s silver. iPod’s white. No pink in sight. 🙂

I’m getting a lot of hits from the keywords “pink laptop” and “pink gadgets” and “pink digital cameras”. I hate jemstones on my gadgets hehe, but pink I love. I guess it really depends on women. Point is, there is a relatively large market that patronizes pink gadgets.

It’s okay to be pink as long as it’s a kick-ass gadget. Or a reputable brand for whatever gadget. The thing is, if gadgets are emblazoned with cartoons (in the image, after Hello Kitty), what happens is that it cheapens the quality of the gadget. I sort of get the idea that they tossed HK because they wanted it to sell and cover for the pathetic quality.
