Holy cow, a train system inside an office?

Roughly two hours from Pudong is the new R&D campus of Huawei. Officially called the Lianqui Lake R&D Campus, this is where most, if not all of HUAWEI’s new research and development takes place. According to data available, this campus will be the research center for future technologies in 5G and AI enhancements.

The campus – which is actually more like a city spans 2,600 hectares. For reference, Bonifacio Global City is only 260 hectares, which means that this office is 10 times the size of BGC. The campus is so huge that a train system encircles the entire campus, around the Lianqui lake and is quite beautiful.

The development was completed only in 2024 and is expected to attract 35,000 employees. At each stop, we were greeted with restaurants, a bar, convenience stores, and coffee shops. The entire development roughly cost 1.2 billion U S dollars.
The architecture is European-inspired, similar to the Shenzhen campus, but several times larger.
I was able to try one of the dozens of coffee shops, called YOURS COFFEE. I had a V60 pour over and it was great! Glad to see that they even have the bean origins printed out.

I wonder what it would feel like to work here? This gives a whole new meaning to work-life balance.
