Fun browser-based games you can enjoy with kids (and the young at heart)

·

In a previous post I talked about some of the online games I introduced to the kids. As a parent, a life hack I discovered was looking for games that utilized the browser — in other words, these were not app dependent, and relied on HTML5 coding on a website.

The reason for this is simple: as a parent to young children I didn’t want them to be able to download games from the App Store or Play Store as this could open a can of worms like potentially downloading malware or making in-app purchases by mistake using my credit card.

As my youngest is a fan of cooking at home (he’s also part of the ‘Little Chefs Club’ at school), I found a site with a collection of browser based cooking games — and more.

Let’s go over some of my favorites.

Feed the Baby

It looks simple — because it is! It’s a great bonding and teaching opportunity with young children.

Perfect for kids trying to learn the different food groups, Feed the Baby is a fun way to orient children with the different food groups — in this case simplified into meat, vegetables, and sweets or desserts. It promotes bonding moments with your child to help identify different types of meals and where to classify them. It’s a fun teaching moment!

Tap Supermarket

So I am a huge fan of simulator games like Farming Simulator and Fallout Shelter. Tap Supermarket brings that kind of frantic action on the browser in the form of managing a supermarket.

A fully-upgraded stockroom allows for quicker resupply as this takes the most time.

In a way, it is a headfake to helping your kids learn about the supply chain in supermarkets. As a manager you are able to restock shelves with produce and electronics, help customers in queue at the cashier, resupply stocks in the stockroom, and upgrade facilities to accomodate more kiosks, storage facilities, and high-ticket items.

Crazy King of Soccer

OK things just got real and challenging with the obstacles and players.

Although there are lot of cooking games on the site, variety is the spice of life! I was able to find some other gems like Crazy King of Soccer, what I thought was a simple 3D shooting game. It turned out to be quite challenging once I got to level 4 as obstacles and NPC’s who can steal the ball made things quite tough. You lose if other players clear the ball out of the backyard so I was lucky with some replays where the ball was cleared but did not make it out of the backyard. I’d say give this game a chance as it’s quite engaging and challenging once you clear the first three levels.
