  • Prices of Moleskine in the Philippines

Before the personal digital assistant, there was the notebook and the organizer. But there also emerged the moleskine, which was dubbed as the writing enthusiast’s journal. It’s sorta like the Macintosh of the journal universe. Haha!

In any case, a lot of aspiring, feeling, and would be writers have been searching far and wide for moleskines available in the Philippines. Here is the pricelist which you can grab from Moleskine Philippines. With Christmas up and coming, you may want to order some for gifts! Have fun!

    “A Bugged Life” Blog Blueprint

I had dinner with INQ7’s Editor in Chief JV Rufino last week because I needed a bit of insight on information architecture. He was essentially the only person who I felt could help me with some issues about IA.

There is a big similarity between being an editor of a magazine and being an editor of an online publication, which I shall refer to as the website. These are the similarities:

  • Magazines have a page plan. Websites have a content management system.
  • Magazines have sections. Websites have categories or channels.
  • Magazines have a front cover. Websites have a portal.
  • Magazines use circulation data for advertisers. Websites use page views.
  • Magazines use independent readership surveys. Websites subscribe to a reliable ad server.
  • Above all these however, one should go back to basics and figure out what kind of publication one should concentrate on in the first place. Applied to blogging, you can ask what your target niche is, and then from there the design should follow. More on this later as I chronicle the site redesign for A Bugged Life.

    When the sensuous get desensitized

I’ve been reviewing gadgets for the past three years. In sum total I’ve written about a hundred plus reviews ansd columns and how to’s and such. It makes some people wonder if ever I get desensitized when I see a new toy.

Short answer is yes, in fact. With mobile phones, in fact. The last time I ever got excited over a phone was back when the Treo 700w was announced, mainly because it was a fusion between the world’s best smartphone and the more powerful Windows Mobile operating system. With the advent of MS Mobile version 5, the 700w was sure to be a killer. Later on it really didn’t turn out to be a killer phone, but it was still a hype back then.

So okay, I’m not that hot with phones. So maybe thats why I’m the one who always reviews them. Why?

Well, in the same way that John C. Dvorak doesn’t get hyped up about a lot of technology, he gets to give a more honest-to-god opinion of things when it comes to tech – especially when it comes to the PC. (Would you believe he didn’t know what a .Mac account was?).

So there. If you are suddenly getting desensitized with your field, then don’t fret. It may actually be a good thing. In our company, Adel reviews the Macs and audio devices, Art does the laptops video and I mostly do the phones and other small handhelds. Why? Because we get excited enough to see something new, but even more excited and then utterly disappointed to see what has been improved from the previous versions.

Or maybe we’re just hard to please.

Blog Tip: Write about pop culture

If you’re in the mood to widen your personal blog’s audience, you may want to try a trick I’ve been doing not only for this blog but also for my technology sites.

The tip is to try to connect your blog topics with popular culture references.

For instance, blog traffic here had increased when I did a post on Bubbles Paraiso being my former student. The post title was simply Bubbles Paraiso, a popular model and local TV show host (and yes she was really my student). Being a hot item in the entertainment industry, Bubbles was able to squeeze some Google Juice my way. If you do a search for her on Google, I am on the front page as of July 6 2006.

On my mobile phone blog, traffic shot up when I created a thread on the Final Fantasy Advent Children phone that Cloud was using. I knew that FFVII would be a hot topic of discussion and putting it on Google would send some juice my way. I also recently made some posts on the Bleach and Naruto cell phone straps.

Take a look around you and figure out what’s in in today’s pop culture. Names of celebrities, popular cars, toys, television shows and events are always welcome. Put yourself in the shoes of the person who wants to find information on the web. Figure out what this person will type on Google to get this information and use those keywords as your post titles.
