With all the hubbub on the smartphone space, let’s take a short break and look into the recent happenings in the feature phone market. Out of nowhere, we have a local phone company called Starmobile launching a stable of new non-smartphones that have a rather interesting twist to the typical offerings.

UPDATE: Yay, his account has been re-activated!
So my friend got banned from Facebook. The reason? Because Facebook thinks that my friend’s first and last name on his profile isn’t his real name. So one morning he logs into his profile page only to discover that his account has been locked. I can’t even find him in my friends list and all the tags on the photos we took have disappeared as well.
Naturally, he did what any good Internet citizen should do and appealed through the support email. There is a support email — [email protected]. And, this is what he sent:
It’s been seven months since the launch of Google Map Maker in the Philippines and Google just announced that the hundreds of users who contributed tens of thousands of edits finally have their cartography placed officially on Google Maps.
As I’ve reported before, Google Map Maker is the “sandbox” where users can map out familiar areas in their locus. After the details have been verified by other users and community managers, the data is transferred into Google Maps for the entire world to see as “official.”

The Philippines is one of the most challenging places to map because of the diverse topography of its more than 7,000 islands—this is why there is a dearth of accurate map data available online. Truly hot. Art In Site is an upcoming magazine for Filipino artists, made by artists. And they’re doing something really bold. For their first issue, they’re calling for 3,000 artists to submit artwork to be used as the cover of their 1st issues (they’re printing 3,000 individualized covers!).
