16 Minute Video Interview: The Philippine Blog Awards 2007

This afternoon, Joey Alarilla interviewed Abe Olandres and myself for the Philippine Blog Awards. For the full 16 minute video interview, click here. Gail Vilanueva, the co-organizer who completes the triumvirate was sadly not able to come to the interview because she lost her voice.

Abe and I talked about the philosophy behind the awards as well as our insights on the Philippine blogosphere. We also made the formal announcement of the awards this coming March 31 at Podium 4, RCBC Plaza Auditorium at 5:00 PM.

The Philippine Blogosphere is DOWN!

Since last night there have been several anomalies with local domains and hosts. At this very instant, Yugatech is down (12 noonish), as well as several other blogs that have been jumping up and down like jack rusel terriers. PWiT mentioned something about the issue here about Dreamhost going down. Could this again be the janitor’s fault? Could this be a terrorist attack on the Philippine Blog Awards?

Could these series of events be linked to the peculiar thing going on with KFC branches in the metro area? For the past 2 days, KFC has run out of french fries side orders in the metro (are you aware of this? Are you??). Two branches in two days — I order the same thing and they serve me mashed potatoes instead of fries because of lack of stock!!!

A conspiracy theory? Only time will tell…

Hey Bloggers, Welcome to the Social!

So as to borrow the resurfaced 80’s catch phrase for getting together. The blogosphere is getting more and more exciting as the value of a linkback is merited by real world meets. Here are some things to look forward to in the next few weeks:

Social 1. This weekend, Anton Diaz and pals are inviting people for a day trek to Pampanga for a food feast as well as shoot the Hot Air Balloon Festival at Clark.

Social 2. Aileen Apolo and pals are organizing a beach getaway at Puerto Galera come end of the month of February. She has posted detailed information about the trip and from the last count, we have a handful who have committed their attendance.

Social 3
. Weird idea, but makes sense – since it is really an excuse to go shoot people. Oops that sounded bad. Since a few of our lady blogger friends were featured in Marie Claire Magazine, Abraham had a suggestion that we do a photo shoot for everybody as they are being featured slowly, but surely in different forms of media.

When blog posts get counterproductive

There have been two things that I’ve found to be recently disturbing.

The first was the seeming misinterpretation of my post about PWIT and Pinoy Tech Blog – as if there really was some controversy going on. My intent was to help promote PWIT as the cast and crew involves people whom I have worked with in the past – people who have helped me in my career (Howard and Adel come to mind as they taught me almost everything I know) and personal life in various ways. That was it. Help promote PWIT. And thanks to the person too who cited that the original post I made was not controversial compared to the PTB post that was picked up.

The second post hits closer to home as it involves a small misunderstanding of a post I recently deleted out of frustration. One of my closest ever friends drew plans of building a blog network composed of all-Pinoy talent. I remember we were sitting down for coffee when he was narrating his plans to me. The only question I could ask him at that time was “are you doing this for profit or for amor?” My purpose for writing that post was to help promote the network for him. Again – help promote the network. Sadly, I received comments that led to a questioning of who really founded it in the first place. Why do we have to argue about this? Aren’t we all glad that we finally have a local blog network? Why do we have to celebrate it with a debate on who owns it?

Sometimes I wonder if spreading the link love is still worth it. I know that people are entitled to their own opinions but I just hate it when things get out of hand when all you wanted to do was help.

I do apologize, really, if misunderstanding was caused – maybe it had something to do with my post “spin” and not the point of the post at all that made a difference.

Sigh. At least the traffic peaked for everyone. That’s a good thing.

And the nominees are …

Have you ever stumbled upon a website that you thought should win something? It never really crosses your mind at first – in the same way how you glance upon a hottie walking down the opposite side of the road. I mean, your first reaction wouldn’t be “hey I bet that lady could win a Miss Universe.”

*clears throat* Anyway, going back to awards, DigitalFilipino is accepting entries until the 18th of February under several categories including Corporate, Tourism, Services, etc …

Nominate a site now by posting a comment on or before February 18, 2007. It should include the following:

Website name:
Website url:
What makes this website outstanding?
