New Blogs at the b5media Tech Channel…

If you were to ask me what I love most about my job description, it would be helping craft new blog concepts as well as looking for job-fit bloggers who can weave content in awesome ways. This month, the b5media tech channel launched two new blogs – actually we launched one and rebranded another.

Office Tweaks is a “getting things done” blog that talks about how to make your way around the dozens of office suites available for consumers. It was formerly known as Office 12 Watch. (The) Gadgenista is a glam gadget blog for the fashionistas – something which I’ve been wanting to launch for quite some time. It is also a part of the Glam.com Network.

With companies churning out more and more office productivity suites, Microsoft has a ton on its hands in terms of competition. You got your open source Open Office, your Microsoft Office for the Mac, as well as your web based suite like Google Apps. With a ton of these available at your disposal, it may prove to be more confusing than productive to actually get things done because of the many choices available. Well fret no more! Say hello to Office Tweaks!

It sure took a while, but we’ve found our Gadgenista! And ever since, the technology channel has added a little bit of pink to its corners. The Gadgenista is that one stop blog for things that make you go “oh that’s so cute!” to the utterly weird in tech + fashion finds. It’s also a place for guys to find something special for their geeky better halves.

Office Tweaks is written by Kyle Pott while The Gadgenista is written by Lia Espina.

Thank You Hsien Hsien!

I rarely write about goodbyes on the network I work for. Truth is, bloggers come and go. Some stay for a month while others stay on for a year or two and then leave. I’d like to bid goodbye and good luck to a virtual friend I’ve made over the past several months in Dr. Hsien Hsien Lei who was channel editor for the genetics and health channel. Hsien was part of the About Weblogs fold that came into b5media several months ago.

As one who has been with b5media since the start, I’ve seen bloggers write, write, write some more and then leave to pursue their other passions. Hsien was one of those who I got to know, albeit briefly on a slightly deeper level when I opened up and asked for advice about my brother’s medical condition (he has a swollen cornea that thank God is healing well now) several months ago. Not that she gave a doctor’s prescription, but she was there to empathize and listen through about two or three days worth of rants from me.

Thank you Dr. Hsien-Hsien Lei for being part of my b5media adventure and good luck with your passions!

It’s All Mike Abundo’s Fault!

A few days ago I was in search of a new blogger to take over the helm of the b5media “2.0 and friends” blog Emerging Earth. As Jason Bean has become more focused on his other blogs on the network, EE was up for grabs. Now anyone can write about Web 2.0 and why it matters. But in truth I wanted a tongue in cheek, foot in mouth, hand in your pocket blogger personality who can really make the top spin when it came to this topic.

I searched far and wide for days, interviewing people from around the world … and it turned out that the person I was searching for lived a few kilometers from where I worked. So hello Mike, welcome to b5media. 🙂

The bloggers here at b5media all seem like very nice people. I am not. I have been called everything from a “digital extremist” to a “cyberterrorist”. I live in a country ruled by neo-Luddites who control people by limiting technology and spreading ignorance. In retaliation, I have dedicated my career to accelerating the global transformations brought by emerging technologies. – Mike Abundo | Emerging Earth

I still remember his most famous soliloquy which he gave during the SEO PH awarding ceremony last year … “If you cannot be searched, you do not exist.”

And so there he is. I found a new blogger for Emerging Earth, and it’s all Mike Abundo’s fault!

Getting Intimate with Happyslip

happyslip.jpg[DIGG!!] Last December, I scheduled an interview with rising YouTube Revver star “Happyslip” Christine. As a young and gorgeous Filipina who made nursing her fallback in the US, she took the artistic plunge and went all out in her creative endeavors.

A few days ago, Juan of The AfterMac was able to do a follow up on the interview and posted it here.

I work mostly for the business of HappySlip now…. just building it up. I haven’t had to do nursing for a while, just do that whenever I need to. My vision for HappySlip is that it can be a way for me to explore the full potential of my creativity and if it can be cultivated into bringing in some income that would be nice!

I’m figuring that $$ will come in either through other offers whether it be through TV or other websites offering work, but I’d still like to maintain HappySlip as much as possible.

Click on this link for the full interview. Juan, you lucky dog. You now have her iChat ID 🙂

The AfterMac is looking for a Wingman

I’m fielding in a new co-author for The AfterMac, the b5media blog that talks about productivity tips and how to’s for Mac newbies and mainstream users. The AfterMac was conceptualized by myself and Adel Gabot with the guidance of former tech channel editor Jon Watson under the b5media ship. I will be refocusing my efforts on other projects and feel that my place can be better

Currently, The AfterMac is being written by PhilMUGer Juan Magdaraog of Fight Pompe. I am looking for a wingman to co-blog with him. I’m basically looking for an adept Mac user who loves to find workarounds and experiment with the OS. More than a news blog, The After Mac really wants to focus on user experiences as well as tips and tricks to getting things done. It also covers the basics of OS X for switchers.

This is a paid job of course. Email me at jayvee at b5media dot com for details.
