A couple of days ago I sent a Tweet out asking friends how the heck am I supposed to review a hard drive. To be honest, at least for the regular consumer, panning the Internet for a gold review of a hard drive is the last thing they’ll ever want to do. Storage is really something we take for granted in this day and age where the number 1 criteria for selecting hard drive would be how much space it can store at the cheapest cost. Other features such as the security lock, automated backup and whether the drive is USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 compatible are secondary. Of course, if you’re a geek, like me, these things matter.

Earlier this month, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas were interviewed on the future of movies, showing a multi-tiered pricing structure for your regulars vs your blockbuster hits. That would mean, for instance that your ‘White Chicks’ would be priced at a lower rate compared to say, ‘Superman.’ In fact, more affordable rates for movies succeeds the growing number of streaming movie rentals online which goes to show that the future is indeed a same day release on the web versus a 30 to 60 day window into the Blu-ray or iTunes / Netflix equivalent.

I must admit that video recorders haven’t been on my radar for so long. Considering my earliest childhood memory of being enthralled with gadgets involved a video recorder (my dad was recording me while I kept on asking how it was possible “to watch yourself in the past”), the handy cam became obsolescent when almost all forms of consumer tech (i.e. webcams, mobile phones, compact and DSLR cameras) could record video.

But alas.
