what i wish my parents told me

I realized that my gradeschool and highschool life were silly jokes – well at least to some extent. That extent had to do with doing well in class and meeting expectations.

The fact of the matter is, the corporate market does not label us in gradeschool of highschool. Not even college for most. I know of a few friends who screwed up badly in school but are now earning much more than I am – and doing things that seem to be more fulfilling.

So when I become a father someday, I will heed Tom Peters’ advice and let my kid do what he wants as long as he learns to face the consequence of his actions.

“Never hire a human being who had a 4.0 in college. If they had a perfect GPA, it means they bought the act and never screwed around. Now a 2.0 is probably not so good. But the ones who had 3.0, yeah! Those are the freaks you want!” [TY Devin]

.. with a little spanking here and there. Hyuk.

I don’t believe in the whole “mom and dad know best” routine our parents gridlock us kids with. I can understand why from their shoes, but as children of the world who have much to explore (in the categories of love, politics, friendship, revenge, greed, consequence and beer), their advice means nothing in the heat of the moment.

It’s good that I was able to catch up and screw around in college. It’s normal to be weird nowadays.

NB The graphic above has nothing to do with the entry.

Deep inside, I am screaming.
