Rakion: It’s all in the timing

Watch out for the 3rd issue of GAME! Magazine coming into stands soon!

I heard about Rakion a couple of weeks back, being an appealing combination of Devil May Cry with some loose elements of Soul Edge. So heck, whatever right? I fired up my browser and joined the open beta. Besides, the tagline “Philippines’ first fighting game” was just too in-yar-face! to ignore since being Pinoys and all, we love fighting for no apparent reason. And guess what? It turns out that’s what the game is all about – senseless pwnage! Oooh I like!

After downloading the 200MB installer and patching the damn thing, I immediately went into character creation screen. Okay so there’s the Swordsman, Archer, Blacksmith, Mage and Ninja. The Swordsman was too macho and the Mage was too cute. I had a feeling the Blacksmith would be too overpowered (and I confirmed this later on) and the Archer was the distance wuss. But Ninja – ah, yes the sneaky-sneaky! And, being a big fan of askaninja.com she was the perfect choice!

Not.

time for a cellphone site facelift!

Thanks to Jon and Jason (but mostly to Jason since he’s really good with graphics), Cellphone9 is getting a facelift with the logo. The old logo’s been there for a while now and I’ve come up with a neat layout suggestion playing with the “9” of a phone’s numerical keypad.

You like? Thanks Jason!

Kiven joins ProBlogging

I’d like to extend a warm welcome to Kiven Codamon who has join the ranks of the technology problogging community. Kiven writes for Cellphonenews.net, a site that is owned by Philip Liu. I “met” Philip during the early days of C9 on one of the link-up projects.

The site currently has a PR ranking of 5 which is quite good for a blog that had been rarely updated in the past. But that has changed since Kiven came along.

/expects the next round of drinks from Kiven soon 🙂

Pac Man the Movie

This summer, he’s hungry for justice.

State of the blogging address 2006

It is currently June 2006 and I celebrate my one year of discovering that there is such a thing as professional blogging. Here are the highlights of one year of blogging in the making:

June 2005: I was offered a seat in b5media’s rocket ride as the network launched with several blogging personalities famous all over the Internet. I had no idea what b5media was then. I had no idea what site I would be providing content for. I had no idea that I’d be meeting such great people from around the world in the comforts of my home.

From June to August I was waiting for feedback as to what site I would be writing for. Duncan Riley tells me that he had “something much better suited for me” and told me to be patient. I was cool with the idea and didn’t really do anything (what else was I to do?) but wait.

August 2005: Cellphone9 was handed to me and it’s been running since. 323 posts. 320 comments. More than 13,000 unique visitors per month and growing. Wow. It made me realize how high passion actvities such as sports (the ones that have opposing camps and schools of thought), politics, games and technology can really shoot up traffic.

December 2005: The AfterMac was created. The name was coined by me, after searching far and wide for a witty domain name together with Adel Gabot. It’s been several months now and Adel has taken the backseat and handed the stickshift to a good friend, Dickoy Magdaraog. Dicks does most of the site’s direction now but I still regularly contribute.

2005 wasn’t without some obstacles. I had to give up two sites because I was spreading myself too thin. These two sites, Play Gadgets and Kapped! are in very good hands now with Patrick and Leora.
