I’ve been reviewing gadgets for the past three years. In sum total I’ve written about a hundred plus reviews ansd columns and how to’s and such. It makes some people wonder if ever I get desensitized when I see a new toy.
Short answer is yes, in fact. With mobile phones, in fact. The last time I ever got excited over a phone was back when the Treo 700w was announced, mainly because it was a fusion between the world’s best smartphone and the more powerful Windows Mobile operating system. With the advent of MS Mobile version 5, the 700w was sure to be a killer. Later
So okay, I’m not that hot with phones. So maybe thats why I’m the one who always reviews them. Why?
Well, in the same way that John C. Dvorak doesn’t get hyped up about a lot of technology, he gets to give a more honest-to-god opinion of things when it comes to tech – especially when it comes to the PC. (Would you believe he didn’t know what a .Mac account was?).
So there. If you are suddenly getting desensitized with your field, then don’t fret. It may actually be a good thing. In our company, Adel reviews the Macs and audio devices, Art does the laptops video and I mostly do the phones and other small handhelds. Why? Because we get excited enough to see something new, but even more excited and then utterly disappointed to see what has been improved from the previous versions.
Or maybe we’re just hard to please.
