Well, just last night I was able to get my hands on a file called SmartNet.APK which I installed onto my Samsung Galaxy S II. The results were astounding. Yep, SmartNet installed. I just turned my Samsung Galaxy S II into a Netphone (I’d like to call it Samsung Galaxy S II Netphone Edition). It’s exactly what I wanted — using my current Android device to connect to SmartNet.
So here it is, a glimpse into the plans of SMART. Pure connectivity in merging a telco with Android completely. Next up, other platforms and so much more. =)
Technical FAQ:
Can I change the number that’s assigned to my Netphone? In this version, not yet. You can in the next version of SmartNet. Right now I’m using my prepaid Netphone number but it works fine when it is installed onto my Galaxy S II with a different SMART SIM.
In this case why should I still consider the Netphone 701 / Galaxy Y Netphone Edition? Because if you look carefully at the plans, it’s still cheaper to get these if you want some of the Netphone action. My plan with SMART is over 8 years old and the current plans offered today are actually much better.
What exactly gets installed? The SmartNet APK file installs Netphone Messenger, the Global Directory access, Social Stream, and the FX Messaging (installed to the SD card). You need to download the Locate app separately, as well, it is a separate app after all.

Could we compare the smartnet.apk of yours?
Played with my Nexus phone and I now have the SmartNet running. Hmm, just wondering though if there’s a separate apk for Net Setting, it’s the Safe Browse Widget on Netphones. Coz I think access to SmartNet on phone under Safe Browse is free, right? Or should I say, I want full Netphone access on my Nexus. Hehehe.
