Why Shel Israel should come to the Philippines

The announcement was made earlier today that b5media, the online blog network I write for has sent Shel “the Ambassador of Content” Israel to Europe to engage in discussions with local folk about local content.

Seems vague when reading it but this is part of a world tour series to bring home a heterogeneous idea pool of content from different parts of the world. What makes content such a powerful tool isn’t the content per se, but the context of how content is disseminated given the region, culture and other influences (technology being a prime mover) is what makes content even more engaging. If content were a top, context is what gives it its spin.

So Shel goes to Europe and one day maybe Asia, specifically the Philippines. Shel, if you’re reading this here are some reasons why the Philippines is worth visiting (apart from the fact that we are an Asian tourist hub and several b5ers reside here):

The Philippine blogosphere is booming, with local bloggers finally touching base with one another, the Philippine blogosphere is slowly bridging gaps because the blogger community is no longer just Internet-based but very participative in meet and greets.

There seems to be a call for quality content lately in the local blogosphere. Most of the blog topics revolve around entertainment, journal blogging, technology and politics. It would be nice to actually organize a meet and greet with the key topic focusing on content, not just about the other technical aspects of blogging. Though not many would agree with me, sometimes it takes an outsider to get a “less saturated feel” of the big picture, since most of us are too busy to stop and smell the flowers.

Corporate blogging is starting to emerge. I’ve been contacted by marketing people from different types of local industries (one of which is an accounting firm!!), asking for advice on how to go about setting a corporate blog. These people echo similar reasons that a corporate blog serves as an effective way to drive feedback and disseminate information much quicker than a regular website.

Shel, if you’re reading this it would be great to include us in your itinerary. The Philippine blogosphere is at its formative years and it would be a wonderful experience if you could come over and share in the discourse.

I think the next step for us is to show the world that we can actually have a meetup that’s not about blogging itself. Like what Chris Pirillo and many others have said, let’s stop blogging about blogging! 🙂
