Rumor:
We were invited by SMART into HTC’s huge pavilion to sit in a meeting. Lo and behold I was in for the shock of my life when I saw Darren! As in Darren formerly from Apple. It was a happy surprise to see him in Barcelona and now working at HTC (I showed him my HTC Mozart). Anyway, Darren showed us the lineup of HTC for this year — including the HTC ChaCha Facebook phone and the HTC Flyer.
How can HTC have a Facebook phone? The ChaCha’s main feature is a big “F” (for Facebook) button located in the interface. The “F” is contextual. Let’s say you took a photo using the camera. Pressing F uploads the photo to Facebook. If your phone is idle, pressing “F” will update your status (geolocation included). If you’re listening to music on the built in media player, pressing “F” will share that music to your Facebook wall.
The Facebook features are non-exclusive apparently. If a manufacturer wants to do something similar you don’t need to have exclusive API’s from Facebook. It just took time to make on HTC’s end.
The ChaCha is a long-awaited device that HTC needs to break into the youth market. HTC has always been labeled as a high end brand and doesn’t have a strong enough market presence in the Philippines compared to Samsung for instance. This comes as a funny, since HTC has been making phones for other tech companies during their OEM days (i.e. the O2 XDA).
Down there is the Incredible S. Special features: the four shortcut buttons that usually appear below an Android interface also rotate with the G sensor. Check out the second photo.
Darren also showed us the HTC Flyer, their all-metal Tablet that comes with a … stylus?!
Nice sexy back:
The Flyer is honestly “typical HTC” making eye candy gadgets with expensive material. And yes it comes with a stylus. Are we back in 1998?

HTC ChaCha *may* actually be part of the Netphone project. May. *wink*wink* @smartcorporate https://www.abuggedlife.com/2011/02/16/htc-ch…

That pen for HTC flyer is pressure sensitive (so I heard). I’ve also been hearing a lot about the nice aluminum body of the tablet. And yeah, the UI, is (as always coming from HTC) sleek and well-made. I’ve read from another site that the development of HTC Sense for the flyer is one of the reasons why it will be shipping with Android 2.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich?) instead of the 3.0 honeycomb.
You gotta give it to HTC for never failing to deliver quality phones and gadgets. Props to you!

@messie — yes the body is FULL METAL.
im not so sold with the stylus though. after seeing it in action, parang…. why?!
Jayvee –
Maybe the stylus is for when you want to jot down a note or to doodle. Much easier than typing or using your finger, yes?
that’s what darren said. they’re trying to sell the Flyer as a notebook. HTC developed a note taking application. I dunno, I feel like it doesn’t work for me given that there are so many other more affordable options. The other devices are amazing though. The Flyer is good if you have money to spend on a sleek metal device.
As what HTC said, the stylus can be used for business presentations, when you want to make notes while presenting, or when you want to emphasize stuff, or kapag trip mo magdrowing on your flyers .Which is weird kasi mas mura ang pen and paper? mas environmental lang siguro 😀 Pero mas okay na lang ang etch and sketch o kaya Magic Slate 😀
I feel you. The stylus feels like a step backward. Pero what do we know, maybe have better use for it 🙂
Stylus. I find it will be useful for handwritten notes and doodling on the device.
Kamukha ni Arnel Pineda yung nasa unang pic.
I’m droooooling for these gadgets.
