My Comments and Suggestions for Janette Toral’s IMMAP Presentation Slides

MAJOR EDIT: To those who still wonder, Janette and I have put this in the past. We are both on speaking terms and talk when we see each other in events. After all, this we are OK. The Internet is not meant to destroy relationships but to build and enhance them. I’ve apologized to Janette online — in public, and I have told her personally too. To the people who are affected by this, I’d like to firmly say that we should let the past be what it is — the past.

We should move on now to geekier things 🙂

—————————————

Several weeks ago, Google Country Consultant Aileen Apolo led me to the details of the now recently concluded IMMAP held last week. I had put it in the “to do list” to try to find a sponsor to attend this event as I did see that Janette Toral and Aileen Apolo were going to be part of the conference’s list of speakers / panelists. I wasn’t able to make it, as it really slipped my mind – and later found out from Erwin Oliva of INQUIRER.net that the event was just concluded. Bummer. I met up with Erwin at the Morph company launch at M Cafe. Aileen was not around as she was out of town so in the end, I missed the opportunity to see and hear Janette’s presentation which I really wanted to witness.

Luckily, I was able to grab a copy of the presentation from the press CD which I am making available for download here, for those who would have wanted to attend the talk. Janette’s talk was about Blog Marketing and touched on worldwide trends in blogging, the definition of blog marketing, the viral phenomenon, and also talked about the Philippine blogosphere.

Deconstructing the presentation Janette talked about:

Market Night at mag:net August 20 2007

If any of you young entrepreneurs are interested, mag:net cafe at Serendra is having a Market Night event this coming August 20 2007. Gabe Mercado (via JC Media) briefly describes the concept of Market Night:

Market night is a new thing we’re trying out as we’re trying to find a way to showcase more independent young accessories/fashion designers out there — precisely the type of people who make their own stuff and sell out of their own websites.

We pretty much do a lot to promote independent musicians, visual artists, performance artists, writers and film makers but we haven’t done much to promote designers just yet, which is why we thought up of this event.

If there are any independent sellers out there who make their own stuff and want to be a part of this event, let me know!

We are especially looking for handcrafted shirts and accessories that are for guys too. We seem to have a lot of items for women already.

If you are interested in participating, please let Gabe know by commenting in his multiply site.

BUT if you’re interested in grabbing some great finds please come! Talked to Gabe a while ago and he has more that 23 vendors with fashionista accessories! Come one, come all!

UA&P Alumni Web Project

By any chance, are there graduates of the University of Asia and the Pacific (formerly known as CRC, also known as UA&P) that read this blog? Some of the school’s alumni, together with the alumni office are putting together a collaborated web effort. Details are quite vague as of the moment but some of the spearheads of the project include Elber Cruz, Anna “the Foz” Castro and some other graduates. If you aren’t part of the alumni mailing list but happen to read this blog and want to help, please leave a comment here with your email so we can get in touch with you.

UA&P is a very young university so it may seem dwarfed by the other accomplishments and stature of the other big campi in the Philippines. Nonetheless, it was what I called home for five good years. 🙂

Bloggers, MISrepresent!

It is such a sad experience to have a blogger misrepresent the Philippine blogosphere for his or her own merit. Recently, a huge conference was held and some industry folk mentioned a particular blogger who gave such a compelling presentation about the Philippine blogosphere. It was so compelling because it was the first BIG time that the local industry’s eyes were opened to the spectacle that is the Philippine blogosphere.

The phenomenon known as the Philippine Blogosphere is a treasure that is owned by all the bloggers. It is true that there are those who stand out with their ways either because of kapal ng mukha, good content, remarkable personalities and other such things. Any blogger in the community may have a handful to say, if asked by companies, on what the local blogosphere is like.

But it is very different case when one uses the blogosphere for personal merit.

Jayvee’s Quentin Tarantino Experience

So I shuffled over Gateway Mall to meet Quentin Tarantino at the Cinemalaya FIlm Festival. The press had a “meet and greet” session after he gave a four hour seminar on film. Luckily a friend from one of the ABS-CBN magazines needed a photographer so she dragged me along, to my delight. I’d do anything to meet the pulp in the fiction.

Quentin Tarantino has always fascinated me because of his deep appreciation for Asian Cinema. Based on the comments of many of those who attended the four hour talk, they were all fascinated with Tarantino’s familiarity with the development of Filipino cinema, even from the era of the 60’s. Tarantino also stressed how he hates questions like “how was it like working with Uma in Kill Bill” which are things he usually gets in Hollywood. Filipino film students and industry folk were more intelligent throughout the four hour discourse, gladly 🙂

I will say it now that I had a totally different experience!
