The Greatest Sacrifice

If you are a musician, you would probably kill me for doing something back in 2004. I was in dire need of cash and I was also in dire need of a portable computer. Back then, a friend sold me a good quality second hand iBook G4, an 800MHz beauty with 2 years of warranty and 640MB of RAM. Built in Bluetooth, built in WiFi, custom made from Apple.

This decision was perhaps a huge turning point in my life, albeit I had not known it to be so at that point because I was young, restless and in need of something to feed my rising geekdom.

And thus, the title of this post, because I gave up something that I should not have sold in the first place.

I want a Bugaboo for the geek to come

Colorful things always pulled me into stores. I remember a few weeks back i was walking along the Bonifacio High Street strip and caught sight of a set of Bugaboo Strollers being displayed by the window of Hobbes.

Presenting Inigo and Inaki

I’d like to welcome Inigo and Inaki to the blogosphere. Podcast can be streamed at The BuggedCast. In their first episode, Inigo and Inaki talk about the history of inihaw (specifically ‘lechon’ or roast pig), a Filipino delicacy.

Warning: Mature language and use of local dialect and a lot of slang.

Should restaurants charge you for using their power outlets?

serendra-a-different-bookstore.jpg

I’ve coined Serendra and the Bonifacio High Street my official satellite office. With Serendra sporting FREE wireless Internet from the areas of A Different Bookstore to Miss Desserts, the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf area as well as Bo’s Coffee, I can find so many reasons why working in that area can be so relaxing.

I must admit, the Bonifacio High Street – Serendra strip is a bit pricey, but the atmosphere conveys such a relaxing tone to your spirit that I wouldn’t mind spending the extra bucks lounging around. Here are two observations of the best places to chill with a computer: The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf has an ample amount of wall plugs, and the staff allows you to plug in your laptops without charging. A Different Bookstore would have been another good choice to park yourself in for some mobile computing, but they have sadly started charging you for plugging in computers.

Afterthoughts from the geek cocktails at m:cafe

img_7005.jpg

Thanks to the heads up from MIgs as well as an invite from Clair Ching, I was able to attend a geek social at the m:cafe last night. Sponsoring the evening was Exist Software Engineering Chairman Winston Damarillo with friends from the software industry. Aside from meeting great people, I validated my theory on the geek hierarchy. Being among the “geek elite” where most of them were programmers software engineers, I was able to touch base with some of the more prominent names in the software and technology industry.
