Our Bacolod Wedding
Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at November 6th, 2012
Bacolod Suppliers:
Flowers and Table Arrangements: Beng Picart Villanueva
Catering: Tizon’s (buffet) Calea (wedding cakes) Aida’s (chicken inasal) The Lacson Mansion (brick oven pizza) Virgie’s (Giveaways)
Coordinator: Cat Regalado
3.3.12. Our wedding day.
Due to requests from friends and relatives wanting photos of our wedding details, I decided to put them up here. Our wedding ceremony was held at Sta. Clara Church with the reception following at the Lacson Mansion, which is the ancestral house of the family (from my father’s side). We turned the Mansion into a garden of treats where our guests could experience “a day in Bacolod” in one venue. We didn’t have a wedding cake — we had 13 cakes from Calea.

This is for the “entry” level Smart PC running the new Atom processor.

XPLAY’s Official Statement regarding the raiding of Datablitz Stores for NBA2k13
Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at November 6th, 2012EDIT: Datablitz has also issued a statement
You might have heard that Datablitz was raided today. Ironic right, as they have in my eyes been the bastion for what is good in the computer gaming industry. The media got it wrong and I am not surprised. According to statements, Datablitz had pirated copies of NBA2K13 which was of course, false. Datablitz does not keep pirated copies of games. Rather, these were copies that were not under the right distributorship.
We finally have an official statement from XPLAY.
I am still trying to absorb the contents of this press release as we speak. So, what do you think?

Budget ASUS VivoBook runs Windows 8 at PHP 20,995
Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at November 6th, 2012
Perhaps the most affordable Windows 8 Pro-ready laptop in the market, the ASUS VivoBook will definitely sell because it makes touch affordable for everyone. In terms of specs, other than the touch screen, the budget version of the VivoBook comes with an older Celeron processor and 2GB of DDR3 RAM.
As you can see from the specs below, this computer is meant to act as your entry level laptop for Windows 8 that takes advantage of the touch screen features that Microsoft’s new OS touts. And as you may already know, Windows 8 doesn’t make sense without the touch screen.
SPECS:
Intel® ULV Celeron® 847
Chipset
Mobile Intel® HM76 Express Chipsets (i3-3217U),
Mobile Intel® HM70 Express Chipsets (Pentium 987/Celeron 847)
MemoryDDR3 1333 MHz, 2G/4G (on board)
320GB / 500GB (5400rpm)
11.6″ 16:9 HD (1366×768) LED Backlight
Integrated Intel HD Graphics
PRICE: PHP 20,995
After fiddling with the demo unit at the recent Microsoft launch, I was pleased to note that the legacy Celeron processor didn’t hinder the UI response time (I wasn’t able to fiddle with the apps though). If you’re looking for Windows 8 on a budget while still being able to enjoy the new touch-enabled features, the ASUS VivoBook is something you may want to consider.

For my birthday, wifey got me a Light & Motion SOLA 500 Focus Light
Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at November 4th, 2012
For my 32nd birthday my wife gifted me a Light and Motion SOLA 500 SCUBA light. You really can’t go wrong with having more than enough lights underwater especially when the sun sets. Well that’s one use: in my current UW photography setup I have two YS-110a strobes that also have limited use asa real underwater flashlight. However, I was advised that keeping it on for long periods (i.e. more 5 minutes) might destroy the bulb as its main purpose is really a strobe / flash.

COMELEC Precinct Finder Web App
Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at November 1st, 2012
Election season is nigh. If you’ve registered before but have forgotten where your precinct location is or want to know if your voter ID has already been printed you may get all these details (and more) by checking out the COMELEC Precinct Finder web tool.
According to the webmaster, there may of course be errors to your information given and they refer to this as “human error.” I quote:
Furthermore, there is a possibility that your name, date of birth, or other personal information as you know it, may have been incorrectly encoded inadvertently. This is called human error… and it happens. If this is the case, the PRECINCT FINDER will most likely give you a negative result, or a result that you may not agree with. You may try to be “creative” with how you input your registration details in our Form, by following some tips that we have provided here.
Because of this, they have a backup plan. Check out the precinct finder tips and tricks for such cases when your name may contain suffixes like “Jr.” or “Sr.” In fairness to them, I was able to find my voter information with only one try given that my complete name is more than 4 words long.

Finally got the LEGO Ferrari F40 with the Shell Promo. Here’s how it works!
Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at October 31st, 2012
(In the car)
Me: We need to gas up at Shell. They have a promo.
Wife: What promo?
Me: They have LEGO cars if you put gas.
Wife: Haynako.
Me: Would you rather I do drugs?
(driving after several minutes to Shell)
Wife: Ang tagal! mag drugs ka na lang!
I rarely give in to marketing promos. Caltex is my usual choice for gasoline, well, just because. But this move of Shell to allow you to buy one of six Ferrari LEGO cars (and a set of Minifigs) if you spend an accumulated amount of PHP 1,500 was too strong to resist.

So here’s how the promo goes:
- you need to spend an accumulated amount of PHP 1,500 to buy one Ferrari LEGO car. So if you spend, say PHP 3,000 on gas you can buy two. if you have two receipts worth PHP 750 each, you can buy one car.
- the receipts should only come from one Shell branch. You can’t combine receipts from different branches. This also means that you can only claim the LEGO Ferrari car / Minifigs from the same branch at the convenience store counter.
- the cars and Minifigs (it’s a set of 3) cost PHP 180.00. If you load up on V-Power, cost shoots down to PHP 140.00
There you go! Happy building!
Assassin’s Creed III is now available in Datablitz. Pricing follows
Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at October 31st, 2012
This is it — the conclusion to 5 years of work culminates and ends here. The Philippines received its copies earlier than the rest of the western world, which is historically speaking, something that’s not very strange as we tend to get copies of other games earlier. And that’s a good thing.
Assassin’s Creed III will be available on the XBOX 360, PC, PS3 and the PS Vita.
Pricing follows.
Retail Prices:
• P3,195 for Asia Collector’s Edition (PS3 & X360)
• P1,950 for PS3 (R3) – Standard Edition
• P1,795 for X360 (NTSC-J) – Standard Edition
• P1,495 for PS Vita (R3)
Note: PC copies will be released on November 23, 2012.
Shell partners with LEGO with new Ferrari collection
Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at October 30th, 2012
Is this for real? Has anyone seen these being sold in Shell stations? Apparently Shell has partnered with LEGO for the next series of Ferrari car collectibles. I usually ignore promos like this but the fact that this edition is made by LEGO brings forth a whole new level of geek-awesome.
The link is from a .PH Shell website so it must be true. It must be (!!!)
Google Nexus 4 boasts wireless charging and quad core processor by LG
Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at October 30th, 2012
We’ve already heard of wireless charging with accessories like the Powermat and the out-of-the-box Nokia Lumia 920 with its “pillow charger” but this is the first Android device to be released with this feature. The induction coil chargers are not as efficient as the regular USB-to-wall chargers but they’re still hella cool to watch. There will come a day, of course, when these charging plates will be a mainstay in every home, which means, like, your work desk is also a huge charger.
The Google Nexus 4 is a 4.7 inch device running on a quad core processor and Android v4.2 Jelly Bean. It also comes with the new Photo Sphere feature for the camera which allows you to take 360-degree photos of objects. It also features Gesture Typing which allows you to hover over the letters of the virtual keyboard to input text.

PRICING:
8GB for $299; 16GB for $349; available unlocked and without a contract on 11/13 on the Google Play store in the U.S., U.K., Australia, France, Germany, Spain and Canada. The 16GB version will also be available through T-Mobile for $199, with a 2-year contract (check here for more details).
