Sweeney Todd, the “Demon Barber” is a fictional serial killer of Jack the Ripper legend. I managed to find the audio book on Audible. The selection is a good listen as it isn’t really an audio book but a full radio drama of BBC “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Universe” depth. The book is available for about USD $13.00.

It’s been a while since we recorded something. In this podcast for the b5media technology channel, Mike Abundo and I talk about evangelizing the farmers as well as many other things for the Emerging Earth.
Not that I’m preempting a regular b5media tech podcast - I don’t want to promise anything. But I do hope I can keep this up and open the invitation to the other b5media tech channel bloggers.

I’m a faithful listener of Leo Laporte’s TWiT podcasts. For the past few weeks they took in Audible.com as a sponsor partner offering a free audio book (1 credit) and a 14 day free trial. To many peoples’ disappointment though - most especially to the international crowd, the free audio books were not made available outside the USA.
It was not until a few weeks later (that’s today) that I decided to visit the site once more to see if the free audio book promotion still applied outside the USA. Well paint me green and call me Gumby. It works!
Searching through the list of books, I decided to make use of the free credit to download Stephen Colbert’s latest, I Am America (And So Can You!), read by Stephen Colbert himself. As I’m finding myself on the go more often, I really cannot find logistics to bring around a heavy book. Definitely a godsend for moi iPod.

Last night, a few of us aspiring voice actors made an attempt to bring back the cheesy yet classic art of Philippine radio drama shows we often heard on AM radio into the Philippine Internet.
Without further ado, here is the episode entitled “Ang Buhay ni Boy” (The Life of Boy). Apologies to the foreign listeners as most of this drama is recorded in our vernacular. Nonetheless, as Inigo mentioned in the second episode of the Inigo and Inaki podcast, Filipinos have a sing-songy intonation when we speak because of our “Iberian heritage.” Enjoy the intonations

I was able to tinker with iMovie HD a bit more and realized that it is a far more superior product to the new iMovie ‘08. When I wrote about the new iLife ‘08 package weeks ago, I did mention that both apps have their strengths and weaknesses and this still holds true. The new iMovie is best suited for 5 minute on-the-fly video productions because all you need to do is cut and paste your most engaged moments on film and add music.
I retouched the first episode of The Jayvee Show using iMovie HD and have uploaded a higher quality version for download. The differences are:

For the longest time I’ve held on to the premise that video podcasts should only be done when you have something value-added to show off that can’t be conveyed through a regular audio podcast. On a more practical note, audio podcasts are also much easier to download and can be utilized for a more flexible listening experience while in transit. If your video show is composed of talking head(s), why not just extract the audio and you’ll most likely get the same result?
Lately though, I feel like taking that statement back. I’ve started to become more interested in these “talking heads” shows where you see one, two or more people propped on chairs deep in an avid discussion. Notice the facial expressions of people on video who are very passionate and enthusiastic. Look at the hand gestures and movements they make to and from their seats. Notice the rapport that develops as they face one another.
These small changes in body language contribute to an inflection you do not notice on audio. Which is why I feel it would always be good to do video podcasts with people who are very expressive and restless. Body language can convey other feelings such as sincerity, concern and sadness. Have you been watching Darren Rowse’s weekly Problogger videos? He’s always pleasant - which is on tangent to his online writing personality.

This was the first time I set foot into a mobile podcasting studio, though thinking about it I never really knew that you could port a recording studio by just adding water. Worth P200,000, it is supposed to be your friendly portable podcasting box for recording anywhere, anytime.
I have several guests for this podcast, and we all fit inside the 4 x 4 box. One of my guests was Pocholo Gonzales of Creativoices and we talked about the voice acting industry, dubbing TV shows, the life of a voice actor and of course, podcasting.
The show is done mostly in my local language of Filipino.

And now for something light and happy! For my guests, I had good friends JC Medina and Gabe Mercado, who are the co-founders of Geek Chorus. Organizing “stupid events for smart people” Geek Chorus aims to bring geek culture into the mainstream in the Philippines.
This was also my chance to test out my theory on developing studio quality “mobile podcasting” which meant turning my cute Corolla into a (oven hot) recording studio. If you are really stripped of cash and need to record something, the car makes for a very good alternative recording studio. And you know what … it works!
