Dinosaur Comics

Dinosaur Comics 2

Bored as I was three years ago, I had been a contributor to Dinosaur Comics, an excellent web comic with a huge twist. Unlike other comics, Dinosaur Comics uses a static series of panel art throughout its three and so years of existence. I remember how one person compared DC to the formula behind poetry where given a set of rules (i.e. iambic pentameter) is used as a premise to create wonderful literature and it is by trying to push those rules to the limit where one becomes master.

The two comics above are the ones I submitted to his site. You can view bigger versions of the first and second one. It is my short lesson on Metaphysics and the Types of Being.

Lies My Yaya ...

Congratulations to Yapi for her winning entry to RJ Ledesma’s book launch contest! She wins a free copy of RJ’s new book, ‘Lies My Yaya Should Have Told Me.’ Since Yapi is currently in China I received the prize on her behalf and will figure out a way to get it to her.

If I don’t follow what my yaya says, her evil twin will come and kill me. And when I don’t listen, she will hide, then re-emerge with an evil look on her face, and say, “Sabi ng kapatid ko may masamang bata daw dito.” [winning entry]

Eli, Yapi’s sister has written a little something about Yaya Remy because of this recent win:

Yaya Remy came to us when Yapi was four years old. She was primarily assigned to take care of Yapi, and like all children of a certain age, Yapi took to her like the proverbial moth to a flame. You may even say that Yaya Remy was one of the most influential people in Yapi’s early childhood development. Hence. If you know my sister, that statement could be very significant to understanding her.

Yaya Remy was heavily into showbiz and she poured all her frustrations on the two girls. An avid Eat Bulaga fan, she once entered Yapi into Little Miss Philippines lip-synching “Somewhere Out There” (yes, beneath the pale moon light). Yes. Yapi the Goth was once a candidate for Little Miss Philippines. I’m sure there are less horrifying things in the world. [read the rest of the story here]

Flowers by Jayvee

Posted in Filipino, Funny, Projects on 01/02/2008

Anything less than mad, passionate, extraordinary love is a waste of your time.
- Dream for an Insomniac, 1996

You see, the saying “say it with flowers” is really true. The lover’s dozen you give your special someone merely comprise the canvas on which the two of you will paint your unbridled passion of romance.

You can ORDER FLOWERS for your special someone by clicking on this link!

But wait, there’s more! By entering this special promo code ABUGGEDLIFE-68140 in your checkout, you are entitled to a 5% discount from February 1 to February 15 2008.

Another great option would be to order from Express Regalo, one of the current advertisers on this site via The Blog Bank. They are offering discounts for stems as well also from February 1 to 15 2008.

Whichever option you decide to go for, you’re guaranteed not to lose. You know why? Because love … love conquers all!

“That Jayvee guy, he’s so dreamy.”

RJ Ledesma Lies My Yaya Should Have Told Me

I’m going to try something different this year. Using Photo Booth, I’m going to freeze my facial reaction whenever Steve Jobs announces something new. This is a live blogging of my facial expression at Steve Jobs’ keynote for Macworld 2008. Click on the refresh button for my facial commentary.

Bob Newhart

Comedy has always fascinated me as a difficult to execute art. It’s hard to be funny, and I guess comedy is one of those things which you classify under tautological virtues (like humility for instance - the moment you say that you’re humble, you’re missing the point). So listening to people who are naturally funny tends to be a deconstructive experience for me as I try to figure out why so and so Joe entertains me, whereas if someone else said the exact same thing, it wouldn’t even spark a smirk.

So I just finished listening to Bob Newhart’s ‘I Shouldn’t Even Be Doing This’, a semi-autobiography of the guy best known for his self-titled sitcom ‘The Bob Newhart Show’ back in the day.

It’s been a while since we’ve come across the topic of the thin line between bloggers and journalists. After being involved in one event after the other, I’ve come to realize that this really isn’t an issue between bloggers and journalists, but more of an issue with emerging media - that includes corporations slowly accepting the credibility of other online portals and not just blogs per se. So it really is a “name game” as they say it. Local online networks like Yehey!, Click the City, and INQUIRER.net for instance have become accredited sources of information for different things.

I guess the worldwide online medium needed some time to grow and prove itself as a professional medium - not professional in the sense that it is an industry, but profession in the sense that several entities in the industry can make names for themselves. The industry likes names.

But names can really go a long way, and if that name crosses the line, you have what you call a “scandal.”

Duke Nukem Forever

It’s been a decade and Duke Nukem Forever truly lives up to its name.

Duke Nukem Forever was announced in 1997. After several game engine changes and delays, a second trailer has finally been released. I graduated high school, finished college, finished my masters and am knee deep into my career. Finally, I MIGHT get to enjoy Duke Nukem Forever for the PC before I have grand children.

World affairs that have taken less time to develop than Duke Nukem Forever:

Pop Culture:

* The Beatles formed, released every single one of their albums and broke up. During this time they also toured the world several times.
* Led Zeppelin released 7 albums, 9 singles, and toured around the world, crossing international borders 27 times (not counting mainland Europe.)

Science & Technology:

* The Wright brothers designed and flew the first airplane.
* The theory of General Relativity.
* The United States’ entire program to put a man on the moon, from Kennedy’s challenge to the landing.

Wars:

* The American War for Independence
* The United States Civil War
* World War I
* The United State’s involvement in the Vietnam War.
* World War II and the entire Manhattan Project. Yes, even the complete development of the atomic bomb took less time.
