I know no one cares, but I watched Kenny Loggins Live in Manila tonight.

Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at May 23rd, 2011

My blurry video of Kenny Loggins performing House at Pooh corner (Live in Manila | May 22, 2011)

Just came back from the Kenny Loggins Live in Manila concert. It’s no secret that I’m a big fan. I think I’m the only one in my circle of friends who was excited to find out he was coming to Manila, almost a year in advance. So when Maan scored me tickets, I was more than happy (I would have bought my own of course, but super thanks to my boss at UNO since according to her words — I don’t know anyone else who would want to watch Kenny Loggins!).

I practically grew up listening to his music but the turning point of “casual listener” to “BIG FAN” came when Adel Gabot introduced me to his Outside: From the Redwoods Album and I was completely floored with his rapport and talent on stage. He’s an outstanding musician. Hands down one of the best musicians who can arrange something — and then rearrange it in a fashion where he .. well it’s like keeping it in 4/4 then stumping you for a bit then he goes back to the original meter. Many artists do that today, but he has a way of doing it that’s just uniquely him. And more than 20 years later, he still has it.

Oh and I used to write fan mail. He’d reply.

Kenny Loggins performs ‘What a Fool Believes’ with Michael McDonald from their Redwoods Concert. The venue of this concert was epic: the constructed a stage in the middle of the Redwood Forest.

It was a bit sad though that the bouncers who were hired by the production team drowned the spirits of a lot of the middle aged men and women who came. When Kenny started playing Footloose, a good number of the audience stood up and started dancing. The bouncers immediately got to work and told them to sit down. I mean, WTF — it’s a concert. Kenny Loggins took note of this and said “Hey if you want to dance on your seats that’s fine!” And so this time even more people started dancing. But the bouncers were at it again. What are you afraid of? That the lolos and lolas will start crowd surfing and a moshpit? Oh c’mon.

A look into Plancast or what’s about to be called “Social Scheduling”

Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at April 26th, 2011

Nobody wants to watch Kenny Loggins with me :(

There’s a new web app I’m loving and it’s called Plancast. People who don a social media marketer hat call this thing “social scheduling” where users can share events they’re attending based on location and category. So I decided to try it out and I must say that it has its uses: (1) you don’t need to be a member per se to see events as you can get invites via Facebook and Twitter. (2) Unlike Facebook that’s very much promotes friend-centric events, Plancast pushes events around your area. Yes the app asks for your geo-location.

The screen grab above is me inviting two friends whom I think would highly appreciate watching Kenny Loggins Live in Manila on the 22nd of May. I can invite them, send them an automated Twitter DM and I can even add Plancast to my Google Calendar (or Outlook or Yahoo! Calendar) so any event I approve automatically gets scheduled and synced. Just like Facebook Events for some devices. Right now it only seems to work for the web and on the iPhone.

Of course, the business application here is quite obvious. If I search for “Makati” and your establishment has a happy hour event listed, that’s how I’m going to discover it. So the difference here is that unlike Facebook where you’re most likely going to get passive event invites from people who were tagged by friends, Plancast is a more pro-active events finder as it’s more targeted by location and interest.

As of today’s writing, there’s only one event listed under Makati: the Android April 2011 Community Meetup organized by Charo. I can share this event to friends outside Plancast as well. If your friends are on Twitter and Facebook you have the option of auto-subscribing to them when they go on board.

I suggest you give Plancast a try. And then we can schedule our own Zombie Apocalypse!!!

DIVE AND SHOOT: Tourism! Underwater Photo Contests! Growing SCUBA Community!

Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at March 26th, 2011

I found this Moray Eel peeping from the hard coral while shooting for an underwater segment of Born to be Wild | Dive 7000 Resort, Anilao | January 2011.

Dammit! I live in such a beautiful country! :) Anna Oposa would agree.

Last week our underwater photography dive group (check us out at NUDI.PH and our more active Facebook group at FACEBOOK.NUDI.PH) got together once again for an evening of friendly competition. Yep, this happens once a month, and we all meet up, realizing that most of us have day jobs. Heh!

NUDI Night: Even for non-divers!

Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at February 21st, 2011

Even for non-divers!

If you’re interested in diving and photography, NUDI Night is probably something you can add to your list of to do’s. Although we’re mostly divers, we also have non-diver friends join us for our monthly meetup. If you’ve always been curious about SCUBA and have been wanting to try it out, this is a good venue to get together and meet the community of divers, instructors, dive masters and their non-diver friends. :)

So, if your Tuesday evening is still free, do drop by! There’s a small charge of PHP 500.00 to cover for food, beer and the venue.

When: Tuesday, February 22 · 7:00pm – 10:00pm
Where: Unit 217 (Closed Pavilion) 2nd Flr. LRI Design Plaza 210 N. Garcia St. (formerly Reposo St.), Bel-Air II Makati, Philippines

I loved everything except the water temple.

Why do the water temples always have to be so frustratingly difficult?!

Day 0: The story thus far

Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at February 13th, 2011

Left Manila yesterday at 8PM. Arrived in Barcelona via Zurich about two hours ago. I’m at Catalonia Avinyo for the night. We change hotels tomorrow as the city of Barcelona is fully booked. While we were claiming our tickets from Zurich, the counter girl asked us “Why is everyone going to Barcelona?!”

We’re here for Mobile World Congress 2011. Anyone that matters in the industry of cellphones, tablets and wireless connectivity are here. Except Apple. ‘Coz they’re smug like that.

My mobiles for this trip include a BlackBerry Torch from RIM and my HTC Mozart. The latter has really bad battery so I brought along my portable charger and the extra phone as reinforcements. On the camera end, I’m taking along Chie’s G11 and a S95 which was lent to me by Canon.

Oh, did I mention we flew business class? Business class! Big thanks to SMART for flying us over to cover MWC 2011.

That’s me and Andi Manzano on the plane to Zurich from our Hong Kong stopover.

Everything is a bit taller in Zurich.

Flying Swiss implies an overload of Swiss Chocolate.

And a magnificent view of the Swiss Alps.

From Manila to Hong Kong. From Hong Kong to Zurich. From Zurich to Barcelona. We’re here! And behind us, our cabs.

And this is the view from my hotel room. Presenting the lazy Sunday streets of Barcelona.

Lunch in a bit and then we’re going to check out the conference venue find something to do!!!

Later!

Nem0ry has spoken…

Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at February 12th, 2011

First of all this is really cool. I’m blogging from my HTC Mozart.

I’m currently in line waiting for check in. Business class, I can’t believe it! What a nice surprise.

OK guys, Nem0ry has spoken and the winner of the MyFi unit goes to Sanctuarian!

Jayvee, out!

Nuff said!

For best of show, it’s Darth Vader.

Hot Air Balloon Series III: Snowman, Flying Barn and Pirate in a Barrel

Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at February 11th, 2011

Here’s a fun sight. Three of the more “cartoony” balloons include the Snowman, the Flying Barn and what can only be described as a Pirate in a Barrel. The latter is attractive to look at because of the attention to detail — check out the “front” and “back” photos.

Best of show: Darth Vader.

Hot Air Balloon Series II: FESTO’s Upside Down Twin Balloon

Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at February 10th, 2011

If you’ve been a regular at the festival, you may have noticed the FESTO balloon + blimp staples in the launches. Now I’m not sure if it was around last year (I didn’t go) but this year, it has an upside down twin. From the looks of it, the balloon is unmanned!

Up in the air, you’ll really need to have a second look.

Check out the Darth Vader Balloon!
