Turn your Samsung Galaxy S3 into a professional underwater camera with Patima

I’ve been a huge fan of Patima since the time they built sturdy professional-grade underwater housings for smartphones. They kickstarted 2012 with the underwater case for the iPhone 4s, for which I have a hands on review of photo and video samples.

With the surge in popularity of the Samsung Galaxy S3 which has been deemed the most popular smartphone of 2012, Patima has released a compact housing for this phone. Presenting the S-Patima: rated at around 300 ft maximum depth (I mean, who goes that deep?!) this aluminum alloy + acrylic pane case is something you should seriously consider if you’re a beach bum and want to take great photos of the reefs by the beach. If you own a Samsung Galaxy S3 (and you most probably do) this is the definitive geek-out case for you if you intend to get wet. One of the best features I love about these housings is they are condensation resistant which is a problem a lot of video cameras have when you take them underwater. The heat generated from the device causes condensation to occur on the lens, blurring everything. In this case, these housings are very good at absorbing heat generated by the mobile phone keeping fogging at a relative zero.

Just like the iPhone 4/4s housing and the GoPro Hero 2 HD housing (which I also reviewed over here), this case has an estimated retail price of PHP 15,000.00 or USD $375.00. There is no word of its availability in the Philippines as of late through Splash UW Imaging but I will update you soonest when this becomes available. The package does not come with the strobe / video light arms but it’s good to know that there are attachments available for the smartphone cases.
