Globe Duo spams my phone with … yay, marketing!

I got this SMS the other day. Been so wanting to blog about it:

From: +63921.252.6124

“Bai, I’m on my way to Globe to get Duo. hassle to bring landline plus and cellphone. One sim lang ang landline n mobile number, on pareho all the time. Unlimited calling daw for P399 lang on top of ur plan. I’ll save here so might as well switch.”

Anyway, my response:

“Pre, Globe DUO uses GSM to connect to the network. What that means is there isn’t any difference between the call quality of your landline number and your mobile number since they both use GSM. Kung gusto mo ng OK na wireless landline, mag Bayan Wireless Landline ka na lang dahil CDMA ang network nila. Diba pre?”

Not that I’m complaining. It’s just humorous. They’re all (telcos!!) just cockblocking each other’s services. Net of discussion, customer wins with cheaper calls, but it reveals how much they’ve been overcharging mobile phone rates thus far by passing the “new” service off as a wireless landline when in fact, it’s the same thing.

Correct me if I’m wrong but GSM, CDMA, and fixed line technology are very different things.

Cool never heard of Globe Duo… unlimited calling to all networks? or just globe to globe?

You are right how TELCOs are overcharging us. I got into a fit when GLOBE overcharged me for 3g services.

I don’t know about the technology involved but I am enjoying my Globe Duo though. So far so good.

well i just subscribed to globe duo using my prepaid globe phone last oct 11, 5pm. i can receive calls from pldt landlines, but not the other way around. i thought this issue was already fixed. bayantel lines work well though. i called globe and they said after the complaints during the past month, the duo to pldt issue was already resolved. called their cust service for 3 times, and the rep who last talked to me said to wait for 3-5 days before it gets serviced. according to her, to enjoy and make ‘sulit’ (her term) use of the globe duo subscription, i should call instead bayantel lines. and i was like, omg, you’re telling me to make the most out of it by calling bayantel lines while all i need to call are business lines which are mostly pldt? well it’s their cust service rep.

and my subscription is 1 month, since i joined without qualms. what if the subscription is less than 3-5 days? then everything went to nothing? until now, oct 13 7am, i still can’t call pldt lines. globe doesn’t deliver, at least on my end. so frustrating.

I was one of the few Globe subscribers who had no problems with signal and Duo during Ondoy and Pepeng. 80% of my friends though could not call out or be reached to either Duo or Globe. To this day some friends of mine cannot call out using DUO and even those who are not subscribed and just on globe post or pre paid.

In Davao globe is mostly dead!
