Let’s SPIT @ mag:net (an Exclusive Blogger-Only Event)
Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at April 30th, 2008
I’m excited. Yeah I really am. By no doubt I’ve always been vocal about what a great place mag:net cafe BHS is – great memories with many great people from Geek Chorus, the Lomo folks, LU and Yehey!, and acquaintances from PR and advertising. We all seemed to converge here on Mondays or Tuesdays for Rockeoke or SPIT, whatever the poison was (turns out beer wasn’t the real poison).
But yeah I’m especially excited for this event. This is an exclusive blogger-only meet up sponsored by David and Goliath, the makers of the famous “Bloggers Suck!” tees. They will be launching a new shirt line on Tuesday, May 6 2008. And really, if you’re a mag:net patron, Tuesday nights are SPIT nights — once you’ve been spat at, you’ll crave for more!
The sign up sheet is posted here. Please feel free to sign up for the David and Goliath Event at mag:net.
P.S. mag:net BHS now has free WiFi.
Win a Trip to Hollywood!!! Sponsored by Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf

Life In A Beanshell from Coy Caballes on Vimeo.
September of last year greeted us with one of the longest commercial URL’s the public has encountered. This April, prepare for something that upped the ante!

What’s Your Coffee Bean and Teal Leaf Story is an online contest sponsored by the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf which was launched during their contest tea appreciation night. The prize at stake is an all expense paid trip to Hollywood with accommodations and pocket money.
Bloggers are story tellers (note: quality of storytelling is relative) and Coffee Bean is rewarding the best story in the form of photos, blog posts, audio or video podcasts on their most memorable experiences at the Coffee Bean. Coy gives us an example with his heartwarming vid above.

I, Beauty Blogger (???)
Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at April 27th, 2008Me: “Hey, Gabby you know what I feel so out of place with all these beauty bloggers.”
Gabby: But you wear tight pants! (and pink!)
Me: Oh. (teehee)
So I don’t know why I was invited. Usually I’m resigned to being a tag along with her when it comes to these sort of things.
It was actually quite interesting. The girls were invited to an event sponsored by Lipton Milk Tea at The Body Shop in Glorietta. After some cocktails, Lily, the host, asked the girls “What makes you feel good?” (I hid! Heehee!). After getting several responses from the participants, Lily and Minnie Fong, assistant brand manager to Lipton went on about the benefits of tea to the system. May be a coincidence but there’s been a stronger awareness on the benefits of tea versus coffee. Apparently the difference between the caffeine in coffee and tea is that the former gives you strong but shorter bursts of energy while tea maintains you at a steady level (more useful for longer work shifts??). So I think this is why Lipton is pushing a new “feel good” campaign to spread the message that tea helps you maintain a more consistent pace in your day.

Animoto Powered: Samsung Metrowear Fashion Press Conference
Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at April 24th, 2008I’m trying out a new video service called Animoto. What it basically is: SLIDE.COM on steroids. With three clicks of the mouse you can create hardcore video slideshows similar to those you see on television. Here are some photos I took from the Samsung Metrowear press conference a few weeks ago at Ascend, Bonifacio High Street.
Animoto allows for a free 30 second sample slideshow but to avail of longer, full length videos, you will have to pay a small fee of $3.00 per reel. However, you can also avail of the all-access pass that allows you to create an unlimited number of full length videos a year with the ability to download them onto your computer. I say, this is definitely one of the best USD $30.00 purchases I can think of!
* Here’s another Animoto vid I made for the Samsung 2008 Mobile Roadshow.

Lens Review: Micro Nikkor PC AUTO 1:3.5 f=55mm
Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at April 19th, 2008Last month I reviewed my hands down favorite lens. This month, I’m literally zooming in with my second lens review. Thanks to a friend who took the pains to have this “new old” lens cleaned of 15 years worth of muck, it’s finally back in the game! May I present the Micro Nikkor PC 1:3.5 f=55mm lens, a very versatile macro lens that is also by the way, a derma’s nightmare as I was able to take the most unflattering shots of women’s facial pores.
According to various site reviews, this is one of the best macro lenses (!!!) ever made by Nikon in the mid 1900′s. Although auto focus does not work with the Nikon D40, it matters not really. The Micro Nikkor 1:3.5 is versatile. It has a focal range of 24.1 cm to infinity making it a great lens for shooting close up subjects like portraits and even events. The lens practically shines during daytime photography as shown in the photo below:

Benefits of Blog Events Revisited
Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at April 16th, 2008
Several months ago I gave four tips to promoting your blog offline. One such tip was to attend blog events. Attending blog events has the following benefits:
a. huge networking opportunities // a good venue for looking at outsourcing work especially in the field of graphic design, publishing, advertising, PR, marketing, photography
b. meeting bloggers in the flesh // let’s face it – sometimes a blogger may come on too strong in character on the Internet; blog meets are good ways to get to know the other 50% of the person. The results are usually gladly surprising.
c. maintain your Technorati Rank // not that it matters much but being linked by other blogs once every 6 months maintains your ranking; attending blog events is the best way to receive an influx of these consistent links
d. expand your social circle and maybe even find true love //
Speaking of events, 88db is sponsoring a blogger summer party. Aileen Apolo helped organize this event

First hike after 6 years: Mt. Daguldol
Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at April 13th, 2008Some of you probably know GMCI, one of the more blogger friendly PR agencies. I got a call a few weeks ago to attend an “event” with a “client” on an “out of town trip.” Wow! The last press junket I went to was 7 months ago for Nokia. So another trip would be great, especially since it was summer and as well see apparent, the heat is really unbearable.
Apple releases new MacBooks: Complete Redesign, Fully Customizable
Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at April 13th, 2008This definitely proves my point. Apple watchers have been keen on a rumor of upgraded MacBooks coming soon. The current design is being phased out in favor for lighter and more earth-friendly materials because of the ongoing green campaign in the USA.
I was able to snap a photo of a leaked unit inside one of the confines of a local dealer. Photos after the jump:
