Science is Fun!

Peeping and excited!

When I was a lot smaller, I held a close fascination to theme parks, science projects and anything that had to do with planets. If all it took to become an astronaut was a face, I’d probably be in the moon right now. So when Anton invited to celebrate Our Awesome Planet’s anniversary, I really could not resist to go because the kiddie party included a tour inside the SM Science and Discovery Center. There I am peeping through the blinds like a little boy (And yes, those are Crocs).

Close your eyes and make a wish

Welcome to the Christian world!

So after witnessing the candle blowing and cheek-pinching of Anton and Rache’s two little boys, we headed off to the discovery center proper. The SM Science Discovery Center is a two level facility built for interactive fun for kids as well as for adults who want to enjoy something different from the typical mall.

Yay! Let's go!!

The top level contains the LEGO Mindstorms NXT room, a robo demolition derby arena, a robot museum, the earthquake room and the virtual reef.

He'll be back

This was the first time I’ve seen a Mindstorms kit in action. It’s always been a geek dream to purchase one of these, but the hefty price point of more than P15,000.00 for LEGO is just discombobulating. The earthquake room is a pressure plate that simulates an actual earthquake. It didn’t really deliver.

Spiral Zone!

The bottom level of the Science Discovery Center contains the interactive video games area (ala Nintendo Wii motion capture screens), the Grossology area and the “vehicles of tomorrow” zone – the Philippines’ solar powered car is here as well as that wheel thing that reminds me of the leader’s vehicle from the Spiral Zone cartoon.

Eeeeeew

This floor is also the entrance to the planetarium, which is the main attraction of the center. Inside, you’re greeted with a movie theater where the screen is on the dome. The feature film was a documentary on the planets and the origin of life. Geek that I am — it was narrated by none other than Harrison Ford.

Solar Powered Car

I honestly forgot to ask how much the day pass package cost, but I must say that it’s a good break from the regular routine of going to the mall. The Science Discovery Center is definitely a must visit for geeky couples 🙂

Oh dear, did someone give you those crocs, and therefore you were forced to wear them? Because I’m sure you wouldn’t buy/wear those dreadful things on your own. Wait wait, someone pointed a gun at you, yes? Told you to wear the crocs or die? It’s ok, I understand. That’s probably the only reason I’d wear one of those things too.
