“There is nothing wrong if a manly man gets a pedicure…”

Philippine Internet Commerce Society

So pedicures, a proposed “drinking club”, and modeling with rose petals were but some of the less serious topics discussed at mag:net cafe’s balcony. I’ve uploaded photos of the Philippine Internet Commerce Society’s meet and greet session, the first for this year. You can view the shots on my Multiply page. Tag as you please :)

On a more serious note, a few topics about copywriting and the Internet were brought up. The general sentiment is that it is quite hard to find good writers nowadays. And if you do find good writers, there is a tendency for them to ask higher.

One piece of advice I like to give friends is that if they are looking for good writers, they can start by looking in schools. There are a lot of Filipino students who are very verbose and eloquent, not to mention diligent in delivering copy. As they are still students they can be paid on a part time basis. On their end, this is a very good entry point for the corporate world. Everyone’s happy.

I’ve always wondered how hard it is to find a full time copywriter. If they aren’t freelancing, they probably work for a big name advertising or PR agency. The average salary of a copywriter in the corporate setting is around P16,000 – P20,000 depending on the level of seniority. Of course, if they win an award (like an Anvil or a PALANCA) their market value increases.

Brain fart: are there such things as SEO copywriting awards?

Nike+ Running Widget

Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at January 31st, 2008

Three days ago I said my piece about what people would go through to stay fit. As the year begins I’m trying my best to get back in shape so as an incentive to me, I decided to post my Nike+ running statistics on my blog. If you can’t find it, it is on the right sidebar right before my Adsense widget.

Please cheer for me! The goal is to try to do a minimum of 2.5K runs at least twice a week.

What are you willing to try to stay fit?

Wii Fit Philippines

Last month I wrote about the Nike+ running kit and how it may encourage you to stay fit. Today, it’s about the Wii Fit pack exclusively for the Nintendo Wii. Though its not out for the rest of the world to see, its currently sold more than a million units in Japan only.

This got me thinking really – what is the price we are willing to pay to stay fit? Or better yet, what are we willing to do to seem like we’re staying fit? There are lots of cheaper ways to do this but I truly feel that fitness can surely feed on our vanity. Not that I’m complaining. Probably order one of those Wii Fit devices when it comes out in Q2. Nintendo claims that in the future, you will be able to use the WiiConnect24 to interface with the Wii’s yoga mat and send data to your fitness instructor.

3% of LBC deliveries are inflated balloons (and other strange tales with Express Regalo)

Express Regalo

Easily one of the more fascinating press conferences I attended this year was last week’s dinner with eLBC’s Express Regalo. I’ve never really been in touch with the local shipping industry and found LBC’s online store to be quite a remarkable set up. They ship anything from lechon, to balloons, to consumer goods, Boyoyong Clown party packages — and get this – even pedicabs (yes dear friends, our local pedicab industry is championed by eLBC)!

RJ Ledesma Lies My Yaya Should Have Told Me

I was having another one of those chats with RJ Ledesma so he could give me a free copy of his new book. He was promoting his new book which will officially be launched in February 7 2008 at 6:00 PM National Bookstore at Rockwell with special guest readings by Tim Tayag, Mo Twister, Giselle Sanchez, Jojo Alejar and Gary Lising.

Science is Fun!

Peeping and excited!

When I was a lot smaller, I held a close fascination to theme parks, science projects and anything that had to do with planets. If all it took to become an astronaut was a face, I’d probably be in the moon right now. So when Anton invited to celebrate Our Awesome Planet’s anniversary, I really could not resist to go because the kiddie party included a tour inside the SM Science and Discovery Center. There I am peeping through the blinds like a little boy (And yes, those are Crocs).

On Bayan Telecommunication’s Wireless Landline Service

Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at January 21st, 2008

Last year, I wrote something about how Bayan Telecommunications made a big comeback as a key service provider. Their two main thrusts were transparency as well as bringing forth the wireless landline concept. Today, PLDT has something similar. I’m still in no position to comment on quality of service for these products as I have never used a wireless landline.

@ SM Science Discovery Center

SM Science Discovery Center at Mall of Asia

That’s me and Yuga at the SM Science Discovery Center at the Mall of Asia. We were there as guests for Anton Diaz’s “triple threat” party to celebrate his eldest son’s birthday, his second son’s baptism as well as the anniversary of Our Awesome Planet, one of the most famous travel blogs in the country!

Goofing around, Yuga was able to load up some blogs on the LCD television without the use of a keyboard. The trick is to find sites with letters that match your blog’s URL, and then copy and paste each letter. MSN.com was in the browser history so that’s what helped us find our letters.

I’d write more about the birthday celebration of Aidan and Josh’s baptism but I’d prefer to leave it for another time, with more detail on the attractions. Photo courtesy of Phoebe.

GarageBand crashing when recording on iChat

Posted by Jayvee Fernandez at January 18th, 2008

GarageBand is a neat application for podcasting. It was made in such a way that it can interface with iChat for as many as 10 simultaneous people in one room, recording each person as a seperate track. This is pretty neat as you will definitely find it useful to edit the levels of each guest.

Gabe Mercado was stuck in Quezon City so we had to do our podcast project over the air. Both of us being Mac users allowed us to fire up GarageBand and record via iChat. As it turns out however, we had to redo several segments of the podcast due to GarageBand crashing 10 minutes into the recording. We’ve figured out two solutions (UNluckily only after recording three separate sessions which we would stitch to one long episode) – the first is to repair your disk permissions using Disk Utility. The second would be to delete your GarageBand preferences and let the GB redo the file when you relaunch.

Ugh. Utter hassle. I highly doubt this is a Leopard issue as the support forums say this is more of a GarageBand glitch. With online voice recording, I’ve come to believe that the two most stable applications would be Skype and Gizmo Project, the latter having a default recording feature. Anyone would like to share their VoIP solution?

P.S. The Photo Booth video on top has really nothing to do with this post.
