I really find the concept of an OS in the Internet hilarious. It is just another layer that does not add any value. Why should we pass through this "online OS" just to get to the application we want. The infrastructure that powers the Internet is already an OS.

A long time ago, God created mainframe and all applications run on this mainframe and dumb terminals access it, and everyone was happy. As the humans demand more, the mainframe became a chokepoint. Then God created client-server and moved some processing in the terminals. For a while, everyone was happy until the humans wanted their application to be available anywhere, anytime. Then God moved all applications and processing back to central servers and created the dumb browser so humans can access them. I think I'm having deja vu :)

I agree with Juned. Nothing beats the feeling of having something installed in a brick in front of you. It's there, and it's more physical than the internet will ever be, and I'm infinitely afraid of not being able to access the internet to get to my junk.

As much as I like on-line applications and Ireally think they are great. It will still be good to have an application installed in your computer. And this is because the Internet is still a gossamer thread that miracuolously holds up a brick or in certain instances several bricks.

But then again that is why there is Linux.
