Getting Intimate with Happyslip

[DIGG!!] Last December, I scheduled an interview with rising YouTube Revver star “Happyslip” Christine. As a young and gorgeous Filipina who made nursing her fallback in the US, she took the artistic plunge and went all out in her creative endeavors.

A few days ago, Juan of The AfterMac was able to do a follow up on the interview and posted it here.

I work mostly for the business of HappySlip now…. just building it up. I haven’t had to do nursing for a while, just do that whenever I need to. My vision for HappySlip is that it can be a way for me to explore the full potential of my creativity and if it can be cultivated into bringing in some income that would be nice!

I’m figuring that $$ will come in either through other offers whether it be through TV or other websites offering work, but I’d still like to maintain HappySlip as much as possible.

The AfterMac is looking for a Wingman

I’m fielding in a new co-author for The AfterMac, the b5media blog that talks about productivity tips and how to’s for Mac newbies and mainstream users. The AfterMac was conceptualized by myself and Adel Gabot with the guidance of former tech channel editor Jon Watson under the b5media ship. I will be refocusing my efforts on other projects and feel that my place can be better

Currently, The AfterMac is being written by PhilMUGer Juan Magdaraog of Fight Pompe. I am looking for a wingman to co-blog with him. I’m basically looking for an adept Mac user who loves to find workarounds and experiment with the OS. More than a news blog, The After Mac really wants to focus on user experiences as well as tips and tricks to getting things done. It also covers the basics of OS X for switchers.

PROJECT: You Define Your Blog Conviction

Today I had two interesting one on one sessions with a fellow blogger and my closest friend. On both occasions the topic of professional direction and personal direction were brought up, as a consequence to some reflections on recent accomplishments as well as mishaps. At the end of the day, I was left thinking about my own personal convictions – if I were to have one mission statement, or a phrase that would satisfy my the life choices, what would this be? I came up with mine – rather rediscovered or was reminded of what mine was by the virtue of some short quiet moments and “drive by” life coaching. My personal mission, or what I would like to call my personal apostolate is something very private and only really revealed to closest of friends. But I digress.

This got me thinking about how blogs are extensions, or manifestations rather of our own personal convictions. Thus, I’d like to ask you to sit back from your computer monitor and think about your personal BLOG CONVICTIONS. Why did I start this blog? How has this blog evolved through time? Am I still on track with my original vision?

And now for the clincher. This is actually a project I would like to start. If you notice, my new template does not have a blogroll listing. This was done on purpose when I first thought of the design as I wanted a separate page to appear on the navibar to display links to local and foreign blogs. Usually, a blogroll doesn’t do bloggers justice as it is merely reduced to a one column directory of blog authors or blog titles. I want to add some value to readers who skim through my list of blog links. I want bloggers to be able to tell their story in a few sentences, that will cause a reaction from readers with similar interests who share the same passion. There is a concept in Philosophy that states that the Good has a tendency to spread itself and attract. In the Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell calls this the maven mentality, where experts and enthusiasts tend to attract the same.

Here’s what I can do for you. If you want your blog to be listed, leave a comment here with your BLOG CONVICTION. Tell us a bit about your blog and why you set it up, and what is it that keeps you engaged writing for it. What is your mission, and what makes you identified with your niche. If you are still unsure of what your BLOG CONVICTION is, it would help to sit back for a while and think about it for a few minutes. I swear that this exercise will not hurt, and if anything, it will make you a better blogger in terms of focus and your growing enthusiasm.

If I play my cards right, I’m going to have a whole new page with the word PASSION written all over it.

Singles night for everyone at mag:net Cafe in Katipunan. This was my first time to attend a meet with Lomo Manila, the fun to be with toy camera group. I personally do not own one of them Holgas, as I have a very low emotional quotient waiting for pictures to be developed. I’m too excited to wait.

Announced that night was the events group called GEEK CHORUS, which is your not so traditional events group for “the rest of us” who can’t stand VIP lines in clubs. The more interesting geek events for 2007 include:

Philippines Eleksyon 2007 Series: The Podcast

Yesterday we had candidate Atty Aquilino Pimentel III over at the Inquirer.net office to record the first in the series of podcasts of senatorial candidates for elections this May 2007.

In a podcast that lasted more than an hour, Pimentel, a lawyer who is running for senator as a member of the Partidong Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan or PDP-Laban, under the grand opposition coalition, gamely answered all questions thrown by the editors and reporters of INQUIRER.net led by editor in chief JV Rufino and Breaking News editor Lynette Luna. This is a monumental event for Philippine voters around the world as you will never have the chance to hear your senatorial pick talk for more than an hour about pressing issues. TV and radio will not allow you to do this, but with new media efforts being hastened by local media, this is now possible. Joey Alarilla talks about this more in his blog. Infotech reporter Erwin Oliva reflects well on how new media is changing the job description.

Atty Koko Pimentel III is our first guest and I’m as excited as ever to listen in on the other candidates so that we can make a more informed choice this coming May. You can listen in here.

b5media Blog Openings

The b5media technology channel is looking for passionate bloggers to cover these niches:

1. A blog about VoIP. We’re looking for someone who knows the wireless industry well enough to write about it. Trends, products, laws, companies that are all over Bluetooth, wireless Internet, WiMAX, VoIP, and many more.

2. A blog about portable media. We’re looking for a multimedia junkie who loves to watch video and listen to audio on the fly. This person has to be comfortable writing about the portable media industry, podcasting, products and trends, online media stores and a chronicler of the ongoing battle between the iPod and the Zune.

3. An office suite blog. Open Office, Microsoft Office 2007, or those online office suites of Google. This is basically a Getting Things Done blog that gives tips and tricks on the workaround for the many office suites available in the market – even the free ones.

hackenslash en podcast

I’ve been a firm believer in new media. That is why I love to advocate the new trimedia model to people when they as me on my thoughts about how media is evolving. TV, radio and print is slowly embracing online video, podcasts and websites / blogs. I’m not saying this is the death of traditional media. I’m just saying that it needs to be embraced because new media targets a specific demographic with buying power, it is cheaper, and it is easier to produce.

With that, I’d like to announce my involvement with Inquirer.net’s podcasting efforts. Episode 1 of hackenslash is now available for download and you can hear me as a guest podder with Joey Alarilla and Leo Magno along with Luna Cruz of Anino Entertainment.

The Greatest Story on Earth

Yesterday I made my way to a dinner in the Greenhills Promenade area. Making my way to the dinner, my bladder decided to have an emotional outbreak and cry. I tried to remain calm and make my way to the paid bathroom area on the second floor of the promenade to appease my bladder.

Now everyone who goes to Greenhills knows that you need to pay P10.00 to use the restroom. The added value of this is that you are assured of an aesthetically appealing bathroom with tissue and water. So I fiddled with my wallet rather hastily while the lady at the front of the bathroom was putting on make up. Egad. I only had a P1,000.00 bill.

“Umm miss, do you have change for this?” I grinned rather sheepishly. My bladder was about to explode.

“You know miss I really really need to go. Can I just figure this out later?”

“Please?”

“THANK YOU so much.”

I rushed in. Did my business and felt like the happiest person in the world. You know, a friend told me that the concept of happiness was relative. He gives the analogy of wanting to pee in a cross country bus trip with barely any stops. At that moment you feel like the worst person in the world as you pass flora and fauna with your legs tightening as the minutes seem like days. But then, after the bus finally comes to a stop, you rush to the restroom and let is all out. At that moment, you feel like the happiest person in the world.

And that, my friends was how I felt.

There you have it. The greatest story on earth.

At the end of it all, the lady really didn’t have change and treated me to the free bathroom break. How nice.
